You’re Either Living or You’re Not (opens the original)
Read excerpt
There used to be a middle.Okay job. Okay house. Okay car. Okay life.Nobody was watching you, and you weren’t really watching anybody else. You just got by, and getting by was fine. That middle is gone.I see it everywhere now. Most people feel it even if they haven’t put words to it yet.Two splitsThe first one everybody knows about.Money.Everything costs more every year. The people building wealth keep pulling ahead, and the people who aren’t keep falling further behind. Just getting by is harder
It’s All True & Still Your Fault (opens the original)
Read excerpt
Victim mentality does not announce itself. That is the whole problem with it. Nobody wakes up and decides to be a victim, and nobody would accept the label. It arrives quietly. It shows up as a reasonable sentence about interest rates, or wages, or the cost of a starter home in a city you have decided you have to live in. Every one of those sentences can be true. My wife and I got a table with a clear view of the door, which turned out to be the best seat in the building for reasons that had nothing to do with the drinks, because over the next hour or so maybe thirty people walked through that door and I watched every one of them.Almost every man had a watch on and it was not a variety of watches,
You Are Not Researching, You Are Hiding (opens the original)
Read excerpt
Research is the only form of cowardice that looks like workI am the biggest researcher, I always have been. Every single thing I do I have researched something about it. After years of doing this unconsciously here is what I have learned and what makes it so dangerous. If you avoid the hard thing by playing video games, or drinking/drugs someone will eventually say something. Your wife will look at you a certain way. You will feel it yourself, in the specific way that wasted time announces itsel
