It is difficult to overstate just how unusual Britain’s recent economic history has been. We are now 18 years into what we once feared might be a lost decade.Between 2008 and 2025, GDP per head grew by just 8.7%, equivalent to around 0.5% a year. In the preceding 17 years, it grew by 43%, or roughly 2.5% a year.
