Dark Oxygen (opens the original)
Read excerpt
When scientists discover something new, something that has been around for billions of years but has so far escaped recognition, I find it exciting and want to share! Some 2.7 billion years ago, cyanobacteria became the first producers of oxygen on Earth. Oxygen needs light, or so scientists thought until recently. It is a tasteless, odorless, colorless gas essential to all living beings. Animals, including humans, need oxygen to breathe: they inhale air, and the lungs move oxygen into the blood.
Self-Confidence Is Tricky. (opens the original)

Too much, and you become an egotistical monster. Not enough, and the constant doubt of your abilities acts as an impediment. Actually, when I looked the term up on Wikipedia, it redirected to confidence, and this fits better with what I want to talk about. A quick PSA: I’ll be in Abiquiú, New Mexico from September 14 until the end of October, “on assignment”. I’m trying hard to publish my Substack regularly on the same day of the week, but I’m not there yet, so, my paying subscribers won’t be charged yet. A few days ago he used the analogy of an alarm clock’s snooze button to characterize the Trump regime’s response to the pressing crises we’re facing. Instead of waking up and jumping to action, they hit the snooze button.<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_
Then and Now. (opens the original)
Read excerpt
The first demonstration I ever participated in happened in Munich. where I was a university student. On June 2, 1967, 26-year-old Benno Ohnesorg was fatally shot in Berlin by a policeman when he protested against the visit of the Shah of Iran. It was Benno’s first-ever demonstration, he never was a rebel-rouser, and the news of his murder spread like wildfire and caused protests in every major German city.<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" href="https://substackcdn.
