Post-Lesbianism (opens the original)
Read excerpt
I felt duly liberated from a life of dating men when I came out in 2020. That summer I fell in love with a woman and experienced a novel sense of ‘rightness’. Walking around with her, hand-in-hand, I felt complete. I was still prone to unwanted male advances, but the term ‘lesbian’ protected me like a shield. A magic spell that dissipated the cage in which I had previously existed. A cage of compulsory heterosexuality, and the work of navigating male entitlement and privilege that comes with it.

Read excerpt
There is a sacredness that co-exists with my unwashed body, unmade bed, and holey Nirvana t-shirt. Hunched like a gremlin, bra-less and unfit for public perception, this is usually how I commune with my art. Placing a 9:16 vertical ratio over these moments would fundamentally change them. For me, they are too fragile to endure the camera - a lens that would alter the work before it has even taken shape.<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!IbF
