The Protagonist (opens the original)
Read excerpt
He’s downstairs. I can hear him barging through doors and throwing things around. He’s in the guest room now. That sound is the snap of the bed frame breaking.I can picture his boots, buried deep in the frame; I can almost hear his grunt as he pulls it back out. I can see him turn, sweat flying from his hair, his mouth taut in a snarl.I’m in my closet, the one place I could ever find comfort in my cramped condo. It is unusually spacious, and I do most of my writing here instead of the spare room
