Last week, we left Newton Baylor having sold his dry goods store in Kirksville and entering the coal mining business in northwest Adair County. But, this was short lived. In early February 1886, "The Kirksville Graphic" reported, "John Whitehead & Son of Pennsylvania purchased the Crebston coal mines owned by N. A. Baylor for $9,000 cash." As we learned last week, Rev. Claude F. Acree (1885-1967), Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Kirksville, enlisted in WW I in 1918 as a chaplain and was sent to France after his basic training.
