To write about Jane Schoenbrun’s We’re All Going to the World’s Fair is to address the wifi-shaped elephant in the room: the chronically online teenager. It’s also not lost on me that World’s Fair nods, primarily, at the experience of trans youth. But, to me as a cis woman, the film is more so a summation of my entire teenhood than a representation of finding my gender identity. We’re All Going to the World’s Fair is both a love letter and a cautionary tale to the chronically online.
