Goodness, where to start, it’s been so busy the past while.Chronologically, I suppose.We had a battery installed in our garage to go with the solar panels we got some years back, and that was a long and noisy process that began at 6:30am. In all honesty I did so very little research for Newport. In the end it wasn’t very different from Clara’s experiences in New York, and I even mentioned that in one of her chapters. Leo, of course, was not ever in Newport for the seasons, so I knew I couldn’t rely on him beyond the stories Clara had told him.Once again I found myself turning to The Gilded Age. It is actually ridiculous how difficult this was to research. The people who put these balls on must just keep everything about them a close-guarded secret because wow, I was struggling. And I consider myself a fairly decent researcher!
