Who Is Running My Surrender? (opens the original)
Read excerpt
The heart of this article is a transfer of reliance: recognizing the self-centered mental pattern without making it our whole identity, then putting spiritual principles into practice. My aim is to help the alcoholic see how constant self-correction can keep the same controlling pattern in charge. There is relief in realizing that we are not defined by every fearful thought. Once we notice the pattern, seek help, and work the Steps, we can stay accountable through changed behavior and amends. <a

Read excerpt
My main aim is to invite the reader to take an honest look at what has been running their life. The fear, resentments, and obsessive search for relief that can become so familiar we mistake them for who we are. Then comes the willingness to stop relying on ourselves to figure it all out and begin relying on a Power greater than ourselves. Life on Planet Self (opens the original)
Read excerpt
Long before I reached for a drink, familiar thinking was already promising relief. Recovery helped me recognize that promise and ask for help before acting on it. Through honesty, the Steps, and reliance on a Higher Power, I began to trust a different way of living. I still have work to do, but my freedom no longer rests on my strength alone.<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!UdB2!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubst
