Table Rock Writers Workshop (opens the original)
Read excerpt
For the first time ever at Table Rock, I had a seat at the book sale! My debut chapbook, The Higher Call, earned me that spot. It was exciting, and I was excited!I’d learned from my mentor in the Atlanta Writer’s Club marketing class, Deanna Repose Oaks, how to set up my spot. Thanks to her, I had a tablecloth to lay out to mark my area, a little easel to hold up a copy of The Higher Call, my email sign-up sheet, and bookmarks to hand out.<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" href="https:

Once again, this year at Table Rock, Phillip Shabazz’s poetry class did not disappoint. And once again, it challenged me to write poems outside my usual comfort zone.Phillip’s class is at max capacity, so I don’t want to sing his praises too loudly, but I can’t stop myself. Not only do I appreciate the way Phillip meets each student where we are, but also how he’s able to get the best out of each of us.<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!vEB

Table Rock 2026 is in the books! The week-long workshop once again captured the top spot in my heart. In a miracle of timing, Table Rock began the day after my two-week residency ended, at the same location, Wildacres Retreat. I spent Sunday in Little Switzerland with friends, also there early for Table Rock, a mini-kick-off to the week ahead. Such fun.<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4pD9!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%
A Room of My Own (opens the original)

I had a room of my own in the woods recently. In other words, I had a writer’s residency. For two glorious weeks, I worked on my own at Wildacres.I had a lovely cabin all to myself far from any maddening roar. A short hike away was the retreat center and dining hall. My residency was supported, which means they served three meals a day. If you know me, you know I took full advantage.<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!mHIE!,f_auto,q_auto:goo
Every Model’s Bag (opens the original)
Read excerpt
One might assume a nude model doesn’t bring anything to work. But that’s not true. Even when the job calls for posing with no clothes on, one needs to take a few things to make the job more comfortable, and interesting. An experienced model takes her bag. I wrote a poem about mine in my debut chapbook, The Higher Call (link below). “Every Model’s Bag” inventories what I keep in my bag on the top of my closet, ready for the next “modeling emergency.”All
