An incarcerated person has died while in custody at Southern State Correctional Facility. According to the Vermont Department of Corrections, 44-year-old Trevis Gembarowski of Newfane experienced a medical event Sunday morning. Staff at the facility called for medical help and initiated an emergency medical response. Gembarowski was pronounced dead. His death does not appear to be suspicious. Vermont State Police and the Defender General's Prisoners' Rights Office were notified by the DOC.
