I was born in 1988 so I can safely say I’m of the last generation that remembers seeing music videos on cable television playing in the morning as I getting ready to go to school, on the weekends and sometimes at night when I couldn’t sleep. I still went through that phase of seeing music videos late at night during a nocturnal phase of my life thanks to MTV Classic. When I was about 13, I was likely watching Behind The Music or Game Show Network at my grandmother’s house and I remember seeing a commercial for a British rock singer named Rod Stewart. The first track in the commercial I heard that I said during my wild man days, I could have written called “Maggie May.” The tune was released in 1971 and was Rod’s first #1 single. I was blown away but this raspy yet warm welcoming voice that seemed to understand what a man should say to a woman. I was only 13
