EIA Extends Middle East Disruptions Through 2Q27, Raises Oil Price Outlook (opens the original)
Read excerpt
In its September Short-Term Energy Outlook, the EIA revised its crude oil outlook to reflect the prolonged and escalating conflict in the Middle East. The agency now assumes most Middle Eastern production and trade flows will return to pre-conflict levels during 2Q27. The outlook was released September 9 using forecasts completed September 3.<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!74NB!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubst
Gas Power Demand Underperforms (opens the original)
Read excerpt
Despite robust Lower-48 electricity demand from load growth and average to hotter-than-average temperatures, power sector consumption of natural gas has been relatively weak this summer. Weekly Oil Statistics (opens the original)
Read excerpt
The EIA reported a crude oil inventory build of 17,423 MBbls, against a Bloomberg survey looking for a build of 2,034 MBbls, a miss of 15,389 MBbls and the single most bearish line in this report. Commercial crude inventories stand at 424.4 MMBbls, 1.9 MMBbls below last year and 9.1 MMBbls below the five-year average of 433.5 MMBbls, so the level is still a touch tight even after a build this size. The build came from the trade side rather than from weak refining: crude imports jumped 1,140 MBbl

Read excerpt
The EIA’s latest outlook points to a more prolonged disruption to Middle East oil markets, with the agency now pushing its expected return to pre-conflict production and trade patterns into early 2027. The shift, which comes a full quarter later than assumed in July, drives revisions across much of the agency’s latest forecast. The EIA released its August Short-Term Energy Outlook on August 11, based on forecasts completed August 6.<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" href="https://subst
