Today the city of New York marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks which saw two hijacked passenger jets flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre. The US Open of 2001 had finished two days prior to the attacks with Venus Williams and Leyton Hewitt winning the singles titles.
