脳のニューロンが睡眠中に同期し覚醒時に非同期になる現象を、「興奮と抑制のバランス」という観点から数理モデルで解明した研究です。倉本モデルを改良したEI-Kuramotoモデルでは、興奮性・抑制性ユニットの4種類の相互作用強度のバランスを変えるだけで、同期・双安定・非同期の3状態が再現され、抑制の強さをゆっくり変化させると脳の覚醒-睡眠サイクルに似た状態遷移が起きることが示されました。数値シミュレーションと理論解析の両面から、個々の結合強度ではなくそのバランスこそが集団ダイナミクスを決定することが明らかになりました。参考論文: Satoshi Kuroki, Kenji Mizuseki (2025) "Excitation–Inhibition Balance Controls Synchronization in a Simple Model of Coupled Phase Oscillators" Neural Computation. https://doi.org/10.1162/neco_a_01763
